KHR-1HV
. The 1HV is a robust agile example of what a humanoid robot should be. The KHR-1HV has a beefier battery, for extended run time. The shoulder servos have been beefed up as well, allowing for a 270 degree range of motion compared to the former 180 degrees, but the new motors combined with that new battery pack do make the bot a bit top-heavy, but nothing a well adjusted gyro can't fix. The greatest improvement is hip rotation. With the two additional hip servos the 1HV is now capable of using a human like walking gait, unlike most humanoids that shuffle rather than walk. The 1HV is still not all that is could be though. The build process is somewhat difficult with no English documentation and the H2H software for the RBC3 is in Japanese also. But you can find English support on sties like droidworks.org and robo.irixmedia.com, and if you don’t feel like memorizing the feature on the H2H3 software you can use H2HJ which is in English. All in all the KHR-1HV stands Hip and Shoulders above the rest.

Boe-Bot

The BOE-Bot is an excellent kit for the classroom and hobbyist with excellent instructions and a user friendly programming environment. The Boe-Bot is expandable for many different robotic projects. No previous robotics, electronics or programming experience is necessary, making it ideal for anyone who wants to learn about robotics. Even if you know nothing about robotics or electronics this kit can give you a strong foundation in robotics. This kit is a lot of fun and a recommend it to anyone, beginners and experts.

VEX Robotics Starter Kit

What can I say about the VEX kit? Well not all that much. The VEX kit is more like a remote control erector set rather than a robotics kit. It’s a great toy but not much else. Although I would recommend buying one as it is a great source of parts for real robotics projects. In my opinion I would recommend the VEX kit for only 2 purposes:
1. A fun toy to get kids 7-10 interested in robotics
2. A great source for parts for robotics projects.

Lego Mindstorm

I bought a mindstorm kit for my six year old daughter and she loved it. This is a great toy that will help kids understand the basics of robotics. I think any child from 6-13 will have a lot of fun with this kit. If you would like your child to take an interest in robotics this is the kit for you.
